Erin + Ryan | Snow Engagement Session, Manhattan KS
These two courageous and adorable, souls braved the cold for their favorite time of year. They were hoping for a fun, adventurous snowy engagement session in the town that is now their home, Manhattan, KS. Since we share Erin + Ryan’s love for outdoor adventures and the tranquil beauty a snowy day brings, we were definitely happy dancing in our winter boots! And when you follow it up snuggling at home on the couch with your fur babies and a warm cup of coffee, well now your speaking to our hearts…
Erin and I stalked local weather forecasts, anxiously awaiting the snow to participate in our fun. And boy did it ever! As we arrived to the golden prairie dressed all in white, it began to snow again.
E+R, thank you so much for letting us into your lives and sharing your story… we are so excited for your frosty, cozy winter wedding adventure this December here in Manhattan. Are we secretly wishing for more snow?? Heck yeah!! Either way it’s going to be amazing, because you two are.
We first met at a BBQ that our college roommates put together in the fall of 2013. We lived as neighbors in a duplex. Handsome Ryan showed up fashionably late and we barely spoke a word to one another. But as we shared with one another later on, we both wanted to know more about each other from the moment we met. After a couple months we started hanging out more and became good friends.
Before we started dating Ryan told me, “I’m going to make you like me.” I laughed in his face because of how cocky he was. Truth was, he didn’t have to make me. I already liked him. Our friendship soon grew into romance. Ryan courted me with origami, leaving paper cranes at my door and making a special origami wreath with sweet notes written on every piece. We would sneak on the roof of the abandoned house across the street and watch the starry sky and drunk college kids go by. We’d spend countless nights staying up talking about anything and watching random videos. We are also dancing fools.
In the end, I asked Ryan out. We shared our first kiss and never looked back. Now here we are engaged with two kitties, a house and so much love. Excited for all that’s yet to come.
What I love about Ryan is his strength. Body, mind and heart. Whatever he is doing, he brings it 100%.
The thing I love most about Erin is how she can always see the good in everything. We push each other to be better versions of ourselves and see life in a positive way.
The proposal was a total surprise. Ryan came out to visit me for a weekend while I was living and working in KC. We enjoy outdoor activities so he brought his bike and hammock so we could go on a bike ride and hang out at Heritage Park, one of my favorite parks around where I grew up. Unbeknownst to me, before he got to my place he stopped by my parents’ house to ask them for their blessing and fill them in on his proposal plan. So we biked and relaxed in our hammock, enjoying the gorgeous July weather.
Then Ryan started acting strange and asked if I wanted to walk down to the pier. He then said we should take our bags with us. The pier was less than 20 yards away, but I said ok. Why not? On the way over I found a stick someone had made into a fishing rod. Once we got there I started playing at the edge of the pier, joking that I was going to catch something. Ryan came up behind me, hugged me and pull me up to face him. He had grabbed something out of his bag and now had it in his hands behind my back. Looking at me so sweetly, he began saying the nicest things. Then he knelt down and asked if I would marry him. We were both crying. Love overflowing.
As we walked back, he told me the ring’s stone belonged to his grandmother who had passed away earlier that year. He had it reset for me. I felt so much honor and pride having received this gift. I started crying all over again. After the tears dried I swear neither of one us could stop smiling for the next 48 hours.
Ryan shares, I think it was very special for me because Erin was completely in the dark about the whole thing. We had talked briefly about it, but nothing in detail. I had the gears shifting for almost 2 months before actually asking. Erin is very organized when it comes to everything. I’m a very spur of the moment person and she really helps keep everything in check. I’m not great at planning things, but I think in the end it worked out seeing as she said yes. Haha!
We celebrated with both of our families that evening and the next.
Grandma’s stone was beautifully reset by the amazing G Thomas Jewelers in Manhattan, KS
