Kansas City Engagement

Ivelise + Mikey’s Kansas City Engagement was so sweet I still gush up just thinking about it.  So how do two great, selfless, and kind individuals find one another?  Well, by doing the same great, selfless and kind things at the same time, in the same place!

At First Glance…

Mikey is from Puerto Rico and Ivelise from New York City.  They both spend the majority of their time in a volunteer educational work.  He in NYC in Brooklyn Bethel and she in the Bronx in the hispanic community.  But they never crossed paths.  In August, Ivelise went to a 2 month training program (SKE) in Palm Coast, Florida. Guess who was sent there for renovation assistance??  Well, yes.  Mikey.

But as most romances will confess, they had no intentions of finding one another.  This story, in fact is better in my opinion, because it wasn’t written by intent.  Kindness wrote this story.  While Mikey and Ivelise were busy focusing on their individual assignments, they didn’t realize that a blessing was in store for them.  Together, they could serve their purpose more fully.  Together, they proved to be stronger than on their own.

When did that moment happen?

When do you realize that this is the person that makes you a better you?  I believe it’s when your heart is touched by someone in a way that fills you like warm sunshine pouring through a window; like shelter from a storm that soothes your soul.  An act of kindness that is specially purposed for you.  When Mikey noticed Ivelise tearing up, he slipped a note under her door.  He appreciated that what she was about to give up in leaving her friends and family, to serve others, took strength and courage. He admired her for that and told her so.  And her heart was swept off it’s feet.

The proposal

It turned out to be a spoiled surprise beautifully renewed.  Mikey in excitement accidentally revealed to Ivelise that he planned on proposing to her when all of their families would be together this fall.  However, to our delight and hers, he still managed to surprise her.  Due to logistics of time and distance, they planned their photography engagement session pre-engagement.  And here’s the surprise, tied to a flower, Mikey placed his mother’s engagement ring as a promise to marry Ivelise.  Shy as he is, Mikey explained to her, it was his mother’s ring and would soon be replaced with her own.  And the surprise to Mikey? This promise, as well as the ring, was all the proposal she ever needed.  To his future bride, a promise to marry was just as beautiful as a proposal to marry.

Seriously, when i look at your photographs i swear you guys somehow make sure the grass is mowed and the birds are flying exactly to your specifications. its those little details in your photos that make them so stunning

I am always touched by your thoughtful comments. I wish we could always have natural elements cooperate, but it usually just requires a bit of patience. 🙂 Thank you! xx

Rick, Melanie, this is so beautiful. Your photo session is almost as beautiful as their story (which is very hard to accomplish). I always enjoy looking at your photos in iG, but on the blog it’s so much better.
I wish I could accompany you two someday just to learn from you. Kind of hard across the ocean, though – but I’ll make sure to steal some of those poses ans ideas 🙂

All the best greetings from Germany!
