Intimate Kansas Prairie Wedding
When Amanda + Whitney told us about their vision for an outdoor, intimate Kansas Prairie wedding, we were over the moon with excitement. This free-spirited couple wanted the emphasis of their day to be on celebrating their commitment to one another with family on the Konza Prairie. Rather than focusing on many small details, they concentrated on the emotion, family and gorgeous scenery that reminded Amanda of home.
First, we met up at the local BlueStem Bistro for some warm drinks and a sweet exchange of pre-wedding mementos. They invited their closest family and friends for a week together that culminated with a hike into the Konza Prairie for an intimate ceremony with the breathtaking Flint Hills in the background. The evening included a romantic sunset portrait session at the highest point of the Konza. And ended with an infusion of family and community at the Keltic Star. They had the added bonus of a visit from the K-State marching band. (Though Amanda wants to make it VERY clear she is a Jayhawk through and through.) Lol!
Let’s let them explain how it all began:
Whitney and I and have spent the last three and a half years learning what it means to be parents while building our own relationship and ultimately falling in love. Then one night, sitting on our couch at home, it happened. There was no bending down on one knee. He had no ring. There was no big element of surprise. Other than the fact that, one moment we were casually talking about weekend plans and the next we had set a wedding date.
As we were discussing our vision for the day, we found that we both felt it was important to have our close family to share in our ceremony and a big party to celebrate with our friends. Thanksgiving was two months away. So, we jumped at the opportunity to plan something small and simple at a time when our families could all conveniently come together.
Amanda told Whitney that he wasn’t excused from an actual proposal and expected him to step up his romance game. He came through in a big way at the last minute and incorporated a sweet proposal into his vows. Family shared words of wisdom in lieu of specific readings. Amanda’s best friend officiated and her husband played Beyonce on the ukulele. All the personal elements were there. And the most important people in their lives contributed in very meaningful way.
Amanda + Whitney, there are so many more details of this amazing story we would have loved to add. (Like how when I asked Theo who was getting married, he excitedly exclaimed, “Me, mom and dad!”) Such a cutie! We were so happy to have shared this experience with you and your families. It is something we will never forget.
